The Pendleton Act helped to relieve the issue of corruption in government.How did this act accomplish this goal?

Pendleton act stated that government positions were to be awarded based on merit verses party affiliation. This kept greedy and corrupt politicians to be out into power by other politicians in the same party. The person to be in the position can be from either party and must be worthy for the position
