Convert them into similar fractions, so you take 3/4 and multiply the top and bottom by 2. Now you have 6/8

So, you do not subtract the denominators (bottom number) only the numerators (top number).

6-1 = 5

Afterwards, you put it back over 8, giving you 5/8
