The fusion of gametes to form a new individual. The combination of two haploid body to form a diploid body is called fertilization. The new individual formed is recombination of both parents. Usually 23 chromosomes from spermatozoon and 23 chromosomes from egg cell fuse to form a diploid body. Fertilization is required to combine the characters of both the parents and the new individual formed has characters of both the parents.
