then you solve for x

[tex]x - 6 + 9 + 2x - 19 = 23[/tex]

[tex]x - 16 + 2x = 23[/tex]

[tex]x + 2x = 23 + 16[/tex]

[tex]3x = 39[/tex]

[tex]x = 13[/tex]
