Which equation is the correct translation of the following statement?

Four less than a number is nine.

4 - x = 9
9 - 4 = x
9 - x = 4

Answer: x - 4 = 9  (x will equal 13)

What I did was since 4 is less than 13 we could use 13-4 since 4 is less than 13.

13-4 will get u 9 so that x will equal 13
